Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year here at Fort McCoy School!
At the beginning of every school year, our Student Discipline Team meets with each grade level. During these visits, students are introduced to the administrative staff, cover academic requirements to successfully complete middle school, review the dress code policies, and a whole lot more. Our Student Discipline Team is excited for the new school year and ready for a fresh start for our students. As always, we set our expectations at the start of the year and look forward to our students meeting those expectations throughout the year. If you or your student has any concerns or questions, please feel free to reach out to our department.
DISCIPLINE POLICY
FMS takes pride in being a school that focuses on character education as well as academics. We focus on positive behavior rather than the negative. This includes the Big 3 Expectations:

The Big 3 Expectations are to be followed on all parts of the campus and in extracurricular activities. Our PBIS team works hard to ensure positive behaviors are rewarded across campus.
From time to time it becomes necessary to discipline students for misbehavior. Our teachers have classroom management procedures in place that they will review with their students. Students are responsible for following those rules and procedures on a daily basis. Please reach out to your child’s teacher(s) with any questions or concerns regarding their classroom rules and expectations. Teachers and staff are also responsible for teaching and modeling the Big 3 Expectations for all students. Students are responsible for making good choices and following the Marion County Student Code of Conduct. Please review this important document with your student so that they are aware of what is expected of them at school.
INTERVENTIONS
The following interventions may be used to correct student behavior:
NOTE: Teachers are not limited to, nor required to use, all steps before writing a discipline referral.
REFERRAL TO DEAN’S OFFICE
A student’s failure to respond to the attempts by the teacher and parents to change or correct misconduct will result in a discipline referral being written and the student sent to the Dean’s office. FMS will follow the Marion County Code of Student Conduct when a child is sent to the office for disciplinary reasons.
COMMUNICATION
One big goal our Student Discipline Team has this year is to improve our communication with our families. We will be working with our amazing teachers to increase communication with families and we hope you will do the same! Please know that our teachers and Discipline team are here to help. We can be reached in a variety of ways, including email and phone. We want to be proactive! If you know of a potential problem situation, please call and share with us so we can work to prevent escalation.
